Key Character Points:
Dodon cannot manipulate his aether in any way that enhances his abilities, and is therefore not combat viable IC. If you are interested in a WoL/Adventure AU with Dodon, you'll have to ask for it specifically. Otherwise assume that Dodon has zero adventure/combat experience.
Personality:
Dodon is a goal-oriented Lalafell who generally knows exactly what he wants to do, and how he wants to do it. In the rare moments when he does not, his goal becomes finding out how to make it happen. Despite having a strong moral compass and work ethic, his early youth on the mean streets of Ul'dah left Dodon with a whip-like sass and keen sense of self-preservation, allowing him to weigh the costs and benefits of his choices in real-time.
To those with a modicum of manners, he is cheery and downright friendly- but to those who come off as crass right out of the gate, he has little patience. Time spent trading barbs is time better spent trading goods, after all.
History:
Dodon's original father was a drunk Dunesfolk, and his mother was a Plainsfolk who simply didn't want him. Although they kept him out of guilt for a few short years, it wasn't long into his youth before the little Lalafell was left to fend for himself on the streets of Ul'dah. He stole food to survive and often slept huddled up and hidden beneath the stalls of the Sapphire Avenue, and by the grace of the Seven, managed never to run afoul of the Brass Blades.
After stumbling into the performance of an all-Miqo'te dance troupe one day, Dodon was picked up by the troupe, who took pity on the boy and unofficially adopted him. He traveled with the 5 women by caravan, and was taught not only dance, but various tradecrafts under their tutelage. The caravan was funded by a bright-eyed entrepreneur and selfmade business tycoon, who took Dodon under his wing and became his mentor. In those halcyon years, he was the happiest he'd ever been, and was given the foundation of ethics and wisdom that make him the man he is today.
Like most Eorzean stories, though, Dodon's life changed when Dalamud descended, and Bahamut razed the land. His mentor was delivering supplies to the Allied front, and was caught in the conflict, his body never found- only the barely identifiable remains of his cart. At the time, 22 years old, the grieving Dodon took up his mentor's mantle and bid his Miqo'te family goodbye, setting out to rebuild the goodwill trade empire that was lost with his mentor during the Seventh Umbral Calamity.
RP Hooks:
→ Dodon could always use a Bodyguard! Being the selfmade man that he is, the Lalafell is constantly out in the field or out on his own trade routes- which can be pretty dangerous, considering he can't access his aether and has no combat training.
→ Hiring an Assistant/Retainer! Having taken on way more than he can chew, it's time Dodon admits that he can't actually do it all by himself. He needs somebody to pick up the slack, so he's hiring an assistant or a retainer to help him with either paperwork or physical labor.
→ Business Partners and Contract Work! As a merchant, Dodon has to keep as many irons in the fire as possible to compete with the ruthless Ul'dah trade. He needs connections, which means mingling with other merchants, traders, skilled crafters, hunters, miners, botanists, entrepeneurs and business owners and forming lasting relations that benefit both parties.
→ Charity Work! Empathy became more important than ever after the Calamity struck, and Dodon knows full well the weight of the tragedy on everyday lives, so helping those less fortunate than him is a work of love. He donates money, food and time to people in need, and may offer them a job if they're down on their luck.
→ Warrior of Light/Adventure AU! One-on-One and a Longterm option. This is basically any RP that involves Dodon traveling as a Warrior of Light, or even just as an Adventurer, with your character, because this version of Dodon has access to his pool of aether. (Generally, I will play Dodon as a Monk in this AU.)
→ Sultan of the Sands AU! One-on-One and a Longterm option. This is an AU where Dodon is the Sultan of Ul'dah (in place of Nanamo.) Can involve aspects of political intrigue, as well as more closely-tied elements of the MSQ proper (or allowing him to play with MSQ characters, if you're roleplaying a Canon.)
→ Note: Regarding Romance! Dodon has been burned before, and has dedicated himself pretty strictly to his job, otherwise "married to his work." This doesn't necessarily mean he's off the market, but he hasn't been actively seeking romance for a while. If you're interested in shipping with Dodon, ask me (the player) first, and maybe we can build up to it over time. I don't mind cute shipping screenshot sessions, either, if you think our characters just look nice together.
